Holiday ornaments are usually sentimental and some ornaments are handed down from generation to generation. So, it is important that these items are stored properly. An artificial Christmas tree can be quite hard to store, depending on the size of the tree. In order to reduce the amount of clutter and excess items in a home, consider storing holiday items in self storage. A self storage unit will allow you to use the much needed storage space in your home for items that you need to use more often than once a year. Below are a few tips for storing your holiday trees and ornaments in order to keep them fresh looking for years to come.

Artificial Christmas Tree Storage Ideas

Artificial Christmas trees are durable, but you need to make sure that your Christmas tree is stored correctly, so you can use them for years to come. Before your store your tree, check out the manufacturer’s instructions for storage recommendations. Some manufacturers might recommend storing the trees taken apart, while others recommend keeping the tree fully assembled.  One of the best and easiest ways to storage an artificial Christmas tree is fully assembled, because it usually takes a lot of time and work to put up and take down a Christmas tree each holiday season. However, an assembled tree does take up a lot of storage space.  Placing the fully assembled in an artificial Christmas tree storage bag is a great way to keep the tree protected. Artificial Christmas tree storage bags come in a variety of sizes from small to extra-large. Make sure that the storage bag is sized to fit your Christmas tree. Having wheels on the storage bag will help you move the tree much easier. If you want to keep the ornaments and lights on the tree in storage, then you will need a larger storage bag as well as pay attention for any broken lights or ornaments.

If storing the tree fully assembled is in an option, then taking apart the tree for storage is the next best option. Keep the original boxes for the artificial Christmas Tree to use for storage. If the original boxes are not an option, then use a storage bin, duffel bag, or boxes which are large enough to hold all parts of the tree. As you start the disassembly process, remove the top section of the tree first and put aside before placing in a bag or box. Next, take apart the center section of the tree. Compress the branches to preserve the needles and branches as you take apart each piece. Finally loosen the bolts of the tree stand and remove the bottom section of the tree. Place the branches in bags and then in boxes.

Storage for Christmas Tree Ornaments

Many ornaments are handmade by family members or are heirlooms, so they need to be treated and stored with special care. Christmas tree ornaments come in all shapes and sizes and can be difficult to properly store Keep the boxes for larger or oddly shaped ornaments. If you don’t have the boxes, then carefully wrap the ornaments in tissue paper. Layer the ornaments in a box with filler material between each layer. There are also many styles of specially designed ornament boxes that you can find at your local craft stores. Another solution is to create your own box by using a cardboard egg crate to store smaller ornaments.
